NYC Trans Fat Ban Interesting PR Move
NYC Trans Fat Ban Could Spark Food Fight - washingtonpost.com
In this article, we see a great way to spark debate on an important health issue. Trans fats are indisputably bad for us. Placing a ban on them has the effect of bringing the issue into the public view.
The question this article raises: is it legal? The resulting frame of reference we have is not that we're going to argue about whether it's healthy, but rather whether it is so unhealthy that a local entity can effect a ban without the power of the federal government.
Do you see what's happened here? All of the sudden, we know beyond a reasonable doubt that trans fat should absolutely be limited in any one person's diet. We just don't know whether we should have a local or a national ban. It's the same thing that happened to cigarettes. Remember, at one time, we were wondering whether or not they're harmful. Now, there's no doubt. We just aren't sure what to do about it quite yet.
So, why don't we take it one step down? Ban trans fats from your own diet...by choice! I promise you that McDonald's won't come after you with legal action. They just figure their TV advertisements are enough to negate the ban. Prove them wrong for your own health. Digg This!
