Prevent Diabetes with Drugs or Lifestyle?

Diabetes pill works — but at what cost? This Robert Bazell piece points out the absurdity of taking drugs to prevent diabetes. Yes, the drugs work. They work very well. But with a price tag of $120/month, couldn't you invest in some extra vegetables and some jogging shoes?

Seriously, many low income people will likely be put on this therapy in the future--because it will be less expensive than supporting a diabetic. It's also been shown that most low income people end up becoming obese because the only foods they can afford are highly processed, sugary junk.

Something's out of whack here, I say! Or, I guess Bazell said it first. Good read.
