And We Think We're So Smart...
It's amazing how stupid we are about health care policy. Just reading through some of the facts in the great opinion peace by Dean Ornish below, you get the feeling that we deserve all the bad health we're bringing on ourselves. Insurers will spend $30,000 for a leg amputation due to the ravages of type II diabetes, but they won't cover a couple of hundred or a thousand making sure someone doesn't get diabetes. Check out the article here: Ornish: Health Care spending Stupidity.
One of the best points in the article is that doctors really do care about their patients, but due to the way they are paid, they are literally forced to focus treatment on drugs and surgeries. Try paying off $200,000 in student loans by telling someone to get more exercise.
And let's not forget who's paying for all this. When I say insurers pay, I mean that we pay. And the costs are everywhere. When you buy a cup of coffee, you're paying more for Starbucks employee health plan than you are for the actual beans.
Of course, I think the HRH Program should be covered by insurance. Who knows, maybe someday it will be. Until then, please make sure to make a small investment in keeping yourself healthy with something like the HRH Program. You may not get a cash reimbursement, but I promise that you'll feel like you did. Digg This!
