What Effect Does Caffeine Have on Diabetes?

I'm starting to research the effects that caffeine has on pre-diabetes, diabetes, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. If you have any stories that are related to this, or you think you know of information that will help me in my research, please feel free to drop a note to me.

I'm just now headed out to the library to get a copy of Caffeine Blues, by Cherniske. He says that we know of damaging evidence of the harm that caffeine can have on us, including raising blood sugar and blood pressue, but we haven't found any positive health effects.

That may have changed since he wrote the book in 1998. Now, we know that most Americans get their anti-oxidants primarily from coffee. There is also evidence that long-term coffee drinking actually lowers the risk of getting Type II Diabetes. So, the picture is likely more complicated than he states. We'll attempt to get to the bottom of it.

Of course, if you've read the HRH Program, you know some of my opinions on it. (If you haven't, what are you waiting for?) This new info will just go a little more in-depth. I'll try not to write while hopped up on the caffeine itself, but I will admit I've had more lately than I should. Anyway, I'll post more info as it becomes available.
